ESTA Process for Swedish Citizens Traveling to USA from Sweden
Traveling to the USA is more convenient when using an ESTA instead of a Visa. This is why it is important for all citizens of VWP countries to understand the regulations of VWP and travel with ESTA travel authorisation.
1. Can citizens of Sweden travel to the USA with ESTA?
All citizens of Sweden can travel to the USA under the regulations of Visa Waiver Program. This means that Swedish citizens are eligible for ESTA and do not have to apply for a Visa when visiting the USA.
However, it is important to keep in mind that there are different regulations affecting travel under VWP.
These regulations include such restrictions as:
- You can only visit the USA for a period that does not exceed 90 days, when traveling with ESTA.
- Your reason for visiting the USA has to be travel, transit or business in the USA.
- You have to be a citizen of one of the Visa Waiver Program countries.
In all other cases, you will have to apply for a Visa.
2. Is Sweden one of the VWP countries?
Only citizens of the VWP countries can travel to the USA with an ESTA.
Because Sweden is a part of the Visa Waiver Program, all citizens of Sweden are eligible for ESTA and do not need to obtain a Visa.
The Visa Waiver Program has been created to provide more travel freedom to citizens of some specific countries. However, it is important to know that the USA is responsible for implementing changes in the VWP.
This means that the list of countries included in the VWP can be changed by the USA at any time. Therefore it is important to keep up with all changes regarding the VWP.
3. Can I travel to USA with two passports?
Traveling with two passports is allowed when applying for ESTA instead of a Visa. However, one of your passports has to prove that you are a citizen of one of the VWP countries, for example, Sweden.
Also, it is important to know that when applying for an ESTA, your background and criminal history will be checked. If you want to travel when holding two passports, a lot of attention will be aimed at checking the background of your citizenship of the country, that is not a part of the VWP.
This means that before applying for an ESTA you should make sure that your background and criminal history will not be a problem when applying for the authorisation.
4. What are the regulations for HIV positive travellers?
There are some regulations still in affect for all travellers who have been tested HIV positive.
However, when traveling to the USA these regulations shall not affect you. This is because the HIV travel ban has been lifted by the Obama administration.
If you have been tested HIV positive and you want to travel to the USA, there are no specific regulations restricting you. However, it is always important to keep in mind that there are strict regulations in place regarding traveling with medication.
5. How can I apply my child for ESTA?
If you are traveling to the USA and you are traveling together with your child, it is important that the child is also applied for an ESTA.
As a guardian of the child you can apply the child for ESTA using the same online application form, that is used for all ESTA applications.
In this case, you are responsible for all information being submitted about the child and therefore you should answer all questions as you would when applying yourself for an ESTA.
6. Can I apply others for ESTA?
When applying for ESTA you can also create applications for others, who are traveling with you or without you, to the USA.
This is known as the ESTA group application.
The ESTA group application allows you to apply up to 50 people for an ESTA. What is important to know is that all of the people applied for the ESTA will not have to travel together. However, a single ID will be issued in order to recognise all of the travellers.
